Program:The Gospel Tea Session

  • Venue:Botanic Church
  • Speaker:Elder Chen Shen Quan

“Welcome, please have tea upstairs.” The Gospel Tea Session in Botanic Church has adopted a different method from the conventional, where truth-seeking friends will be brought straight into the church hall to listen to sermons. In lieu of that, the 13 truth-seeking friends were invited to seat before small elegantly decorated tables to enjoy the home-made beverages whilst chatting with the brethren. Apart from beverages (substituting coffee and tea, to not affect sleep) and cakes, the Gospel Tea Session that night was also filled with sounds of laughter, joy, singing, and the word of God. The dining area was the sole venue and the programme was carried out in a relaxed and lively fashion.

The hymns during “Sing-along” mentioned that “Life without Jesus is like a doughnut, signifying the existence of an empty hole within the hearts of every man which is likened to a doughnut. Because the words of Lord Jesus are the words of Life, (where one will never go hungry and thirsty again after partaking) only He can fill in the holes within man’s heart.”

Elder Chen Shen Quan’s short gospel message was simple in speech but deep in its meaning. On one hand, this allowed the truth-seeking friends to know the Lord/Master of Life – Jesus Christ while on the other, they were able to hear the wonderful works of our Lord through the sharing of testimonies. As everyone was savoring the drinks, they were also tasting the gospel of the Lord.

A fellowship in a relaxed state, sipping tea while chatting, singing hymns and praising without neglecting the preaching of the gospel – this is the specialty and strengths of a gospel tea session, not being too restrictive yet maintains godliness. This is the mode of evangelism that is easier to enter into the heart of truth-seeking friends. May the Lord guide the seeds of the gospel to bud and grow secretly within the hearts of truth-seeking friends.
