In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I bear testimony. I am Brother Ong Teck Lai from Melaka Church.
As a child, I was born and raised in a Buddhist family. We believed the gods we pray give us peace and protection. Besides that, I habitually place betting in lotteries and 4D hoping to gain some additional money.
After leaving school, I started working. During that time, I met my other half and she is a sister from True Jesus Church. Not long after, we got married and were blessed with three loving sons.
My wife would bring our sons to attend church service on Sabbath days. Occasionally when I was not working, I would fetch my family to church. As my wife was not good at driving, I would usually drive and drop them off to church. But I did not attend the church services. Even though my wife persuaded me numerous times to join her for church service, I did not join them and gave many excuses. However, whenever there were special occasions like spiritual convocations and evangelistic meetings, I made an effort to attend. Even so, I couldn’t really focus during the service. In fact, I hoped that the service would end quickly. During that time, I was not motivated to seek and believe in God.
As the years went by, I got older in age and most of my good friends had already passed away including my immediate siblings. Therefore, I started to ponder and examine myself. Life cannot be full of labour, sorrow and ends in vanity. We do not know what the future holds, only God knows. We need the true God for our own salvation. No one could help us in terms of our salvation except ourselves. Amidst that time, I started to participate actively in any available church outings and activities.
Gradually, my attendance in church improved. Whilst I was still a sinner, God loved me and wanted me to repent and come to church. The church’s atmosphere was warm, and the members were helpful. I felt comfortable studying the Bible, singing hymns and listening to sermons.
Another reason I was persuaded to return to church was my wife and children influence on me. I noticed that my children were well-mannered and disciplined compared to the other gentiles’ children as they received Religious Education in their younger days. As parents we want and hope that our household will be saved.
In Acts 16:31, it is written that “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
I contemplated upon reading this Bible verse as I wanted my whole family to be saved. I wanted to know more about this faith and the doctrines; therefore, my I attended church more regularly. The Lord Jesus has blessed my family to be a Christian family, to fear God and follow His commandments.
Thank God, I accepted Christ and received water baptism in the year 2012. I had become a new person, reborn again as a Christian. There was joy and peace offered to me by Jesus. God has given me peace and comfort to walk in the heavenly way. May all glory and honour be given unto his name. Amen.
