He Prepares for Us a Place
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (Jn 14:2)
The purpose of Jesus’ departure is to prepare a place for us in heaven where we will dwell with God in close communion with Him. In our journey of life, while we walk the pilgrim pathway, we definitely want to think of returning our heavenly home.
The way to heaven is through Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus promised that He will come again and receive His believers. However, it could be a long wait and some believers may get lost in this world being unable to reach the heavenly homeland; just as the Israelites fell in the wilderness in the past. Apostle Paul admonished the Corinthians to not become overconfident in their spirituality. He said, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” (1 Cor 10:12)
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude 1:20-21)
We need to learn how to renew ourselves and build ourselves up on our faith. It lies in the continuous watering of His Word. God can create in us a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us, but we need to open up the Bible and accept that nourishment for ourselves. It takes constant effort and does not end until we finish our journey here on earth. When the Holy Spirit moves us, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives to transform and change us in the way that guides us in the correct path to the heavenly kingdom.
We have God’s assurance that He loves us if we keep His commandments. Since God is faithful to forgive our sins when we confess, let us in turn strive to be faithful by not allowing sin to enter so freely. Pursuing holiness, purity, and righteousness to be more like Him touches His heart and is the first step to building a close relationship with Him. If we can continue following the teachings in Jude 1:20-21, we are walking on the path of returning to our heavenly home where Jesus prepares a place for us. When we have done the will of God, we can receive the promise (Heb 10:36).
